This week I've got a discounted business class deal to Europe, elevated sign-up bonuses on two popular Chase credit cards, and an easy way to pick up 1,000 bonus American Airlines miles just for shopping online.
There's also a quick two-app link that earns you free Marriott points, and an important update to Delta's baggage guarantee that every checked-bag traveler should know about. Let's dig into all the most important travel deals and news from this week.
Singapore Airlines business class from New York to Frankfurt, Germany is one of the best-kept secrets in transatlantic travel, and right now you can get it for a significant discount.
The carrier is running its monthly Spontaneous Escapes award sale, with 30% off award prices on several routes to Singapore from various U.S. cities. However, you can also score business class between JFK and Frankfurt for just 62,300 miles each way. Economy seats are also available for 19,250 miles.
This is a fifth-freedom route, meaning Singapore Airlines, a carrier based in Singapore, is legally permitted to fly between two other countries (the U.S. and Germany) as part of its longer Singapore-bound service. Rather than flying an empty plane between legs, the airline is allowed to sell seats on the transatlantic segment.
Singapore miles transfer at a 1-to-1 ratio from American Express, Chase, Citi, and Capital One, so you likely already have the points you need. One caveat — these awards are non-refundable and can't be changed, so only book if your plans are locked in.
This deal must be booked by March 31st for travel between April 1–30. It's a great chance to experience one of the world's better business class products on a transatlantic hop.
This week, two well-known Chase cards got more interesting at the same time — one for personal use, and a second for small businesses.
Right now, the Chase Freedom Unlimited is offering 25,000 bonus points after just $500 in spending within the first three months. Chase markets this as $250 in cash back, but the points become far more valuable if you pair them with another premium Chase card — such as a Chase Sapphire Preferred — that allows point transfers to airline and hotel partners.
On the business card side, the Ink Business Preferred is back with a 100,000-point sign-up bonus after $8,000 in spending over three months. The card carries a $95 annual fee and earns 3 points per dollar on travel, shipping, internet, cable, phone, and select advertising purchases, up to $150,000 per year.
Both cards earn Chase Ultimate Rewards, one of the most flexible points currencies out there since they can transfer to a wide range of partners, including United, Air Canada, British Airways, Air France/KLM, World of Hyatt, and others.
There's no official end date on these offers, but I expect they'll only be around for a short time. So if you've been sitting on the fence about either card, this is a good week to take a closer look.
Shopping portals are one of the easiest ways to rack up miles on purchases you were already going to make, and right now there's a bonus for first-timers who use the right link to get in.
The American Airlines AAdvantage eShopping portal is offering 1,000 bonus miles to new members who sign up via a referral link and make at least $75 in purchases by March 30th. The person doing the referring earns 500 bonus miles as well, making it a decent deal for both sides.
If you have a friend or family member already on the portal, this is the ideal way to sign up. However, if you don't, we've assembled a set of referral links from our Points Path Founders Club members that all come with the 1,000 bonus miles. You can grab one by clicking here and signing up that way.
The $75 spending threshold doesn't need to happen in a single transaction — it accumulates across purchases through the end of the month. So if you were already planning to shop online anywhere, this is an easy way to pick up extra AAdvantage miles with almost no extra effort.
Some of the easiest points you'll ever earn don't require a flight or a hotel stay — just two apps you probably already have on your phone, and about 60 seconds of your time.
Right now, Marriott is offering 1,500 bonus points to members who link their account to Uber or Uber Eats for the first time, with no purchase necessary to earn the bonus. The offer runs through March 31st, and the linking process takes about a minute. You can find the option to link on the promotion's landing page.
Your accounts must stay linked for at least six weeks after the offer period ends to receive the points, so don't connect them and then immediately disconnect. Points can take up to 4-6 weeks after that to post to your Marriott account.
This is one of the cleaner no-effort bonuses out there — no minimum spend, no ride requirement, just a quick account link. If you already have both accounts and haven't connected them yet, there's no real reason not to do it before the month ends.
For years, Delta has offered 2,500 bonus miles if your checked bag doesn't arrive within 20 minutes of your flight's gate arrival. But the airline has quietly changed the time limit to make it more difficult to collect on its promise.
Delta's 20-minute baggage guarantee remains in place, but the window to file a claim just shrank dramatically, from 72 hours down to just 2 hours. That means if your bag is running late, you'll need to submit your claim before you've even made it to the rental car counter.
The change appears to have been made without any formal announcement. I noticed it myself a few weeks ago when I was returning from a trip to Austin. I tried to file a late-bag claim the next day, but was denied because the filing window had closed.
The good news is that it's still an online process — unlike Alaska Airlines, the only other U.S. carrier with a similar guarantee, who requires you to file claims in person or by phone with a customer service agent. For Delta claims, you just need to go to this page and enter your relevant flight information.
Delta's policy remains the best checked bag guarantee of any U.S. airline, even with the tighter window. Just set a reminder on your phone the moment you land — because two hours goes fast when you're navigating baggage claim, ground transportation, and everything else that comes with arriving at an airport.
